Stan

ever since the rise of the Internet, we have been introduced to music, movies, YouTube videos and social media. There are many singers, dancers, movie actors, rappers, video creators and artists that we respect a lot. Sometimes we are too loyal to them and support them a lot. “Stan” refers to a completely devoted fan of a musician, TV actor, movies, shows and artists. They are very passionate supporters and loyal to their choices. They might go to lengths to defend and promote their love for the people and shows or movies they like.

This term can be used as a noun or as a verb. It is widely used on the internet and people use it to express their liking towards someone or something famous. Don’t we all stan someone or some movie? For example, we all know that one fan who supports Harry Potter movies.

Origin –

This term originated first through a song by Eminem. In the year 2000, Eminem released a song called “Stan” which was named after a fan who became completely jealous and obsessed with Eminem. This was the origin of the word and people tend to use it now to indicate complete liking or obsession of someone over an actor, singer and so on.

Examples –

“I stan BTS. No matter what people say, their music is amazing. I might not always understand it, but I love the way they present it.” Here a fan is telling how he is obsessed with BTS and their music.

“Taylor Swift is my personal favourite and I stan her.” We all know that one Swiftie in the group who is obsessed with Taylor Swift and her music and for the best reasons!

“I stan Christian Bale. I have watched almost all of his movies” In this case, a person is explaining how she likes an actor and has watched most of his movies.
