Origin –
It is believed that this term originated from the drag ballroom culture, particularly from the African American and Latinx LGBTQ community. This term originated from ‘Look’ and is just an exaggerated pronunciation of it to showcase artistic aspects of the outfit and emphasize drama through this slang.
Can Lewk be used by everyone?
Although this word originated from the drag culture, it is very much being used by people of all cultures, sexes and ethnicities. There is no label to it that only drag culture or LGBTQ communities can use this term.
In the LGBTQ community this word is used to describe the whole persona a drag performer creates, often with exaggerated or theatrical elements. It embodies a specific style, aura, attitude or theme.

“How are we loving the Lewk?” – Here a makeup artist has posted a fun poll on Instagram and is asking about the look in general. This slang fits perfectly since it is a glam makeup look.
“All glammed up for the Cannes film festival. In Love with the Lewk created by Makeup by Mario.” In this case, the celebrity is expressing how much she loves the makeup look created by the makeup artist.
“Serving Lewks on a Monday. Who says Mondays are dragging?” This is the perfect example of showcasing a perfect look and proudly representing it to the people.
