Among the many terms and abbreviations used online on social media and digital platforms, there are some like ‘Dead’. These terms are used but not in the literal meaning of the word in real life. This social media term can be used in the following ways on digital platforms,
- When something is irrelevant.
- It can be used when something is not interesting.
- When something is not active.
- In case someone is tired or exhausted.
- When some trend is dead.
In case 1, the above word can be used when something is irrelevant. For example, “The old company rules are dead, let’s focus on the new rules and regulations.” Here the term is used to indicate that the old rules are irrelevant and not applicable anymore. Moreover, it is indicated that the people focus on new rules and regulations.
Let’s take another example, “The old old Instagram features are dead. You cannot see which of your followers likes which content on Instagram through the tab that was available before.” We can simply put this to understanding that the old Instagram features are irrelevant and not in use anymore.
When expressing disinterest in something, this term can be used. “This movie is dead. Nobody shows interest in it anymore.” Here the person tries to explain how a movie is not interesting anymore. This way this famous social media term can be used in messages or on social media.
“Brb. My phone is going to die.” Here it is being said that the phone battery is about to get over, so something is inactive. hence, this term can be used. Another example can be, “The generator is dead, we need to get it fixed.” The generator is inactive or not working and that is why the term dead is used here.
When you are tired, you can simply use this term and communicate with friends or family. “I’m so dead. The workload is too much these days.” In this case, we can make out that the person is exhausted from the workload and hence the above term is used. “She looks so dead, get her something to drink.” – indicates that the person is tired and needs some refreshments.
In case some trend is over or has become old, this word can be used. For instance, “The lipsync video trend is so dead. People are so creative these days with their content on social media and post a variety of videos.” The lipsync trend isn’t used a lot anymore and is old-fashioned. Therefore it is termed dead in the above example.
