IGTV

IGTV, or Instagram TV, is a feature within Instagram that allows users to upload and view long-form videos. Launched in June 2018, this was designed to compete with platforms like YouTube by allowing Instagram users to share videos longer than the typical 60-second limit on the main feed. There are multiple features connected to these types of videos which are mentioned below –

  1. Video length – Instagram TV videos can be up to 60 minutes long for verified and larger accounts, while regular accounts can upload videos up to 10 minutes long.
  2. Format – Initially, this was focused on vertical videos to cater to mobile users, but it later added support for horizontal videos as well.
  3. Access – Users can access these videos through the standalone app or directly within the Instagram app by clicking on the IGTV icon or from creators’ profiles.
  4. Discoverability – This type of video content can be discovered via the IGTV tab on Instagram, through the Explore page, or directly from the profiles of users who upload IGTV videos.
  5. Monetization – Instagram introduced Instagram video Ads, allowing creators to earn revenue from this type of content.

Summary –

IGTV might not seem as important as a reel on Instagram, but it can play a major role in uploading videos that are longer and more important. This can include movie trailers, Q&A videos, tutorials and addressing concerns online. These are very useful in putting longer content as one go so that the audience can find the content easily in one place. These videos can serve as a great way to build engagement for your social media account.
