Snapstreak

Snapchat is one of the most used social media platforms on the internet. People use this app to share their daily life routine and anything interesting going on in their lives. This is done through snaps which are photos or videos available for one-time view. Although they can be replayed, they cannot be saved or screenshotted without notifying the other person. An important concept in Snapchat is the Snapstreak. A Snapstreak on Snapchat is a feature that tracks how many consecutive days two users have sent snaps to each other.

A Snapstreak begins when two users send snaps (photos or videos) to each other at least once within 24 hours for three consecutive days. To maintain the streak, both users must continue to send snaps to each other at least once every 24 hours. Chats, voice calls, and video calls do not count towards maintaining a streak.

Once a Snapstreak is established, a fire emoji 🔥 appears next to the friend’s name along with a number indicating how many days the streak has lasted. For example, if you have been snapping back and forth for 10 days, it will show “🔥 10”. Snapchat also uses other emojis to signify milestones or provide additional context. For example, when a Snapstreak reaches 100 days, a “100” emoji 💯 appears next to the fire emoji. On the other hand, an hourglass emoji appears next to the friend’s name to remind both users to send a snap to maintain the streak.

Why maintain a Snapstreak?

Snapstreaks encourages users to engage with each other regularly, fostering closer connections and more frequent communication. Furthermore, many users see maintaining long Snapstreaks as a fun challenge and a way to signify close friendships. Some users take pride in their streaks and use them as a form of social currency, showcasing their dedication and consistency in maintaining friendships.
