We all are Lurkers at some point or the other over social media. Don’t know how? Let’s discuss it to explain what exactly a Lurker is! A lurker is someone who is active on social media and sees all the content but doesn’t participate by commenting or engaging with the posts or messages.
For example, we all have that one friend who is a member of the group chat but hardly replies to the text messages online. That friend in particular is a Lurker, who gets all the juicy content of the group chat but doesn’t actually reply or interact.
When you are using Instagram or Facebook and do not comment on any posts actively or check on messages or engage by posting, then you are a Lurker. A lurker can be defined in the above way and hence the usage can be as follows,
“She really is a Lurker, haven’t seen her comment anywhere but she views all the posts over social media.”
“I’m more of a Lurker on social media I guess. I scroll through posts but don’t engage with the posts. Most times I don’t even open social media for days!” Here the person is explaining why they don’t react to posts or messages much on social media. A lot of times people do not want to be seen much on social media nad hence lurk instead of reacting to messages or content on social media.
You can also use it in the following manner,
“I think he is a Lurker, that is why you don’t see his name popping up anywhere on social media.”
“Lurkers really be lurking over memes on social media these days lol.”
Lurking is more of a term that is used in general and personal conversations. It is hardly used in professional conversations but can be sometimes used in cases like, “He lurks in all the group chats but doesn’t react when any question is asked”.
