So what is Clout? having Clout basically means being famous, having a lot of followers, likes, shares or comments on social media or being a popular personality.

A famous personality is said to have Clout. For example, Barack Obama is said to have a lot of Clout on social media as well as off social media. For example, “She is a big personality on social media with over 8000 followers and with millions of views on her reels.” Here the person is trying to imply the popularity of someone with the word Clout.

Having Clout can also be a term that can be used off social media. It is even used for big CEOs, politicians, artists, fashion influencers, sports personalities and actors. David Beckham has a lot of Clout for example. This term can be used instead of popular or famous as a social media language.

“Rihanna has a lot of clout with her music, beauty brand and everything.” Here the popularity of Rihanna was highlighted by this term. Again, the use completely depends on how you want to portray a person. Let’s take another example, “His music has got him a lot of Clout.” Here the person is shown to be famous because of his music using the social media term.

You can also use it to talk about general people in the sense of expressing that they are big personalities or popular in a certain way. “She has a lot of Clout ever since her fashion show in London.” Or “She thinks she has a lot of Clout, but in real most people don’t even know her.”
