We all remember that phase when we played Among Us during the pandemic. That is when we used the word Sus a lot. But haven’t we all noticed how it has gained popularity all over social media? It is a slang that is used on the internet and is very popularly used to indicate suspicion. It is short for “Suspicion” or “Suspect”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you think someone is acting shady, questionable or untrustworthy, then you can use this term to describe this behaviour. This term is very much used in jokes and in lighthearted ways. It is used to keep the chats light and to make conversations fun. Teenagers use this slang a lot and it is to be remembered that this term is mostly relevant in informal conversations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Origin –<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This term originated in the early 2000s and is from the African American Vernacular English. It gained widespread popularity online in gaming communities and social media platforms ever since then. This term is very good for teasing someone on a group chat or creating a fun conversation in the comments of a meme post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayla – “Did you tell Noah that I like him?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharon – “No I didn’t.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayla – “You’re acting sus. Don’t lie.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we can see a conversation between two friends and how one person is suspicious of the other person. This is why the slang is used here to explain the suspicion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He’s acting sus all the time. Do you think he is hiding something from us?” In this case, two friends are suspicious that their friend might be hiding something from them and that is why they have used this internet slang here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you think I’m sus, just check my social media.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Why are you acting all sus?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
