We all have many things to share when we are in a group chat or talking with friends after a long time. This is where we tend to introduce new topics and subjects. What better way to do so than using the term ION? ION is the abbreviation for “In Other News”. <\/p>\n\n\n

As the term sounds, it is used to introduce a new topic or change the subject of a conversation. This social media term originated from the African American Vernacular English. Ever since then, it has become a very popular slang on the internet and is used widely on social media. It is a very good way to transition conversations in an informal setting. It cannot be used in a formal setting as it is not best suited for that. However, you can always 8use it to gossip with your work buddies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Examples –<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“ION, we all have a performance review tomorrow in the morning. Word has it that one of us going to be promoted. I can’t wait to see who gets promoted tomorrow.” Here the person is sharing a piece of office news and starts by using ‘in other news’. This is the perfect way of using this term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Do you know there’s a party at Henry’s this weekend? ION, the word has it that he has invited the whole class but Sarah.” This term is used as a gossip initiator here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“ION, Dune part 2 has been released and I want to see it as soon as possible. Do you want to join me?” In this case, the person casually changes the subject and puts up a question for his\/her friend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are someone who talks a lot, then use this term to transition between subjects. For instance, “I was mortified when he caught us cheating the other day. ION, Elf cosmetics is hosting a giveaway. I think we all should participate. Who knows our luck might shine!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
